Urgent recall of co-sleeping bassinet with unsafe sleep hazard

A recall notice has been issued for a co-sleeping bassinet with a defect posing a significant safety risk to infants.

According to the?Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the mattress base of the Childcare Snuggle Time Bedside Sleeper mattress,?the co-sleeper function side of the product, may lean very slightly left to right, towards the drop down side.

What is?the hazard?

"The incline may cause the infant to roll if the unit is not set up correctly, placed on an unlevel surface or have a manufactured variation of 1.5 degrees," the ACCC notes. "Health recommendations are for infants to sleep on their backs."

"We recognise, and take very seriously reports from our customers that the slight inclination of the Childcare Snuggle Time Bedside Sleeper may aid infants to roll," distributor, CNP Brands said in a statement. "We understand that the optimum sleeping position for infants is on a firm, flat and level mattress and we recognise that a flat mattress will promote an improved night's sleep, and better allow an infant to remain on its back, in line with infant health recommendations.

"To ensure that infants continue to enjoy a good and safe night's sleep in the Childcare Snuggle Time. Bedside Sleeper CNP Brands has manufactured a mattress cover which can be placed over the existing mattress of the product to ensure that any impacted units lay flat as intended."
