When Bec Judd embarked on a renovation of her beautiful Brighton home in Melbourne, she hoped for a main bedroom and ensuite that felt "warm, feminine and pretty".
"We made the bedroom a squarer room, it's enormous!" Judd tells 9Honey.
But an absolute must for the ensuite was a shower that had enough space for Chris and her to share.
"We needed a double shower. Chris and I often shower at the same time. So, we wanted it to be big enough to have a double," Judd adds.

Judd was adamant on having a statement piece of art that hung above her bed, and this piece by Steven Baker didn't disappoint.
"The painting is of Chris and I," Judd says.
"Buying art for a bedroom is quite hard. It's quite an intimate space. It needs to be soft, but not too soft. It can't be too masculine or hard edged. Then you've got to agree on it with you partner. So, I thought, 'let's just get us in bed doing our morning ritual'."

"Every morning Chris gets up before me, goes downstairs makes me a coffee and brings it up to me in bed. We sit and wake up together and talk up about what we're doing for the day. We do it every day, even on weekends. So, it paints our morning ritual," Judd says.
Judd let her husband decide on the colour palette for the artwork, and she let that dictate the design of the room.
"We didn't want competing prints or textures, so we went for that colour block. It really plays on what's happening in the artwork. It's a nice little vignette that shot," Judd adds.

The main bedroom used to have a big curved wall because of the staircase, but the Judd's weren't fans of it.
"We pulled out that wardrobe, we opened it all up and we made the walk-through connected to the main bedroom and ensuite," Judd explains.

The custom-made mirror plays on the arch design throughout the house.
"Out the window, we have a balcony that looks out on to the pool and tennis court. It gets some beautiful light through it in the afternoon," Judd says.
Judd hoped for a bedroom that was light, bright and a better functional space to use.
"Chris' cabinetry features in the bedroom, and then my walk-in robe is in all mine. There's also a hidden TV in the cabinetry," Judd says.

The main ensuite that connects to the main bedroom is an airy room that boasts ample light, an airiness and picks up the gold accents in the rest of the house.
But there was one non-negotiable for Bec Judd and that was a freestanding bath.
"It's the only bath in the house. We've found in the past that we've had multiple baths and they just don't get used. They're expensive, they take up space. You only need one bath," Judd says.
"We needed a double shower as well. Chris and I often shower at the same time. So, we wanted it to be big enough to have a double, and a double vanity," Judd adds.

In Judd's main ensuite, "gold is the hero".
"I love the brass gold look, we've used it throughout the house. In the neutral palette with the super white marble, because it really pops and adds that extra layer of luxe," Judd says.
The bathroom was intended to let the eyes be taken on a journey throughout the space, which requires three pops of that key colour.
"It's in the handles, it's in the tray on the vanity, and in the hanging planter. When you look at the room, it's all connected," Judd says.
"The mirror plays on the arch theme and the reeded glass theme. We've got beautiful arch steel doors that look back across the walk-in robe and the main ensuite," Judd says.
"We've used super white marble, and the brass gold handle that tie in together with the stone throughout the rest of the house."

The floors and walls have terazzo tiles, which Judd believes area in the process of making a big comeback.
"It was big decades ago. We really wanted that terrazzo to stand the test of time, so we went for this natural white and grey colour. The colour is called flannel flour, and it's really versatile," Judd adds.
