Stars share their Christmas Day plans

By Madhurima Haque|

While there are some essential staples for an Aussie Christmas, the beauty of the holidays is the way every family makes it their own.

However, it is to be noted that it is hard to get families together at the same time and place every year, with many of our stars choosing to celebrate on days other than the 25th, often in varying locations.

Read on to see the special ways Nine stars create their family Christmas traditions, no matter where they are.

John Aiken, MAFS relationship expert

Getting some good friends around to our place, eating and drinking plenty, and watching the kids hang out in the pool. We love to entertain, and it's a great day to spoil those close to us.

Liz Hayes, ?60 Minutes reporter

Christmas is always about family and friends I consider family, and being aware how hard it is for everyone that some of our most cherished are not with us. I will be donning my best free-flowing outfit to make room for mum's plum pud, and with a glass of very chilled champagne welcoming my fabulous lot into my home.

On the 27th of December, no matter where we've been for Christmas, the Hortons all get together with my aunt and uncle and hire a BBQ boat on the Noosa River. We have breakfast and swim and fish and laugh. Last year we got caught in torrential rain but that made it even more fun.?

Flights are over $3000 to go from Perth to Gold Coast, so Darren's parents won't be coming over จC we'll do a delayed celebration with them when flights are cheaper. We are planning a chilled and low-key Christmas at my brother's place. Lots of swimming.

My family actually celebrates on Christmas Eve จC my brother and sisters and the kids get together at my parents' house which is a few hours out of Sydney and we all stay for a few nights.

On Christmas Eve we start at about lunchtime and carry on into the night. It means we all get to be together every year which is very special. It's always fun, busy and loud! On Christmas Day we all go to our partners' families for lunch.

Robyn Lawley, model and 9Honey columnist

I get to re-live Christmas through my?daughter, however with the workload?added! I like to cook a massive Christmas feast, so I usually start?early, and after I've played Santa I?start cooking! It's very wintery where I?live, so usually we are snowed in.?However if can visit Christmas lights we most definitely will.?

Victoria Arbiter, Royal Commentator

I was hoping to be at home in England for Christmas, but sadly the airfares are insanely expensive, so my son and I will be in New York. The city goes all out for the festive season so it's a very special place to be.

My best friend, Maria, passed away two days before Christmas last year so her wonderful husband will be with us and we'll do our very best to honour her memory and celebrate all the fun-filled times we shared.

Champagne will be flowing early; we'll tune in for the King's first Christmas address and after lunch I expect we'll have a long walk in Central Park. Hopefully I won't poison anyone with my cooking first.?

Kirra Michel, influencer and Peloton instructor

Sadly, I won't be enjoying Christmas in Australia this year, so instead I'll be spending the day celebrating and eating good food with friends, likely in New York, get a workout in, and hopefully do some volunteering.

Leila McKinnon, Nine Presenter

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law always put on a really relaxed lovely lunch, I feel so lucky not to have to do it at my place.

Maria Thattil, 9Honey Columnist

A Christmas lunch with my family and loved ones!?

T?racy Vo, 9News Reporter

All the traditional things... good food, good booze and good company with Christmas songs in the background.

Steph Claire Smith, Keep It Cleaner Co-Founder

We will be spending Christmas Day at our new home and hosting a late Christmas lunch before heading up to the Murray River on Boxing Day. I can't wait, my extended family is only small here in Aus and Christmas is one of the rare occasions we are all together so it's always such a special time.

Laura Henshaw?, Keep It Cleaner Co-Founder and CEO

This year Dalton and I will be hosting, and we will be with my family! Dalton loves cooking so he will be preparing most of the food (which makes me very happy) and I will help with everything else.

?Neil Breen, 4BC Drive host

Presents, swim in the ocean, lunch, rest, swim in the ocean and backyard pool, leftovers for dinner. Simply enjoying the family and good times.

Mark Hine, 4BC Breakfast host

Wake up late, open presents around the Christmas tree, prepare a beautiful lunch, fall asleep face down in my big bowl of trifle.
