By Jo Abi|

UPDATE: A woman who posted a TikTok video claiming she walked out on a date after he refused to pay extra for cheese to be added to his burger has confessed her video was based on a conversation the couple had overheard, and not on actual events.?

Dafna Diamant detailed her experience on TikTok @dafna_diamant she met a man on the dating app Hinge, organising to meet for dinner, only for her to walk out on him over the incident.

The video was viewed 6.7 million times with many of the women's TikTok followers lashing out at her for the harsh treatment before she confessed to NBC News it wasn't real.

"If I'm sitting on a date with a person and I feel like he's cheaping out on something that will make his meal more enjoyable, he's going to keep cheaping out on the rest of our dates," she told NBC News. "It's not about the cheese. It's about going to a restaurant and enjoying a good time with your date."

She said her date was in on the joke, however they felt compelled to tell the truth following the backlash against her.

"He thinks it's funny as well. And we've only had one date, so he's not obliged to me in any way, but he's checking in to see that I'm fine," she said. "And I try to not take it personally, because it didn't really happen."

In the original video Dafna filmed herself walking home after the date and explaining what had transpired: that the man ordered a burger but baulked at paying an extra US$3 ($4.50) for cheese to be added to his burger.

Dafna continued: "I'm like what the actual f--k? I'm like OK, I'm hungry I'm gonna get my branzino and see what happens. And he's like, 'Oh my God, you have to pay extra for everything these days,' and I'm like, 'Yeah. It's New York City.'"

She said they began eating their meals and Dafna said she needed to use the bathroom before ghosting him.

"I took my purse and I went to the waitress and was like, 'Hey I just want to pay the bill.' I just paid and walked out of the restaurant. So I texted him and said, 'The check is taken care of, you should have gotten the cheese.' Then I blocked him."

She later explained the bill came to US$55 ($82) not including US$3 ($4.50) for a slice of cheese.?

The backlash against her was immediate, with many accusing her of unreasonable standards.?

"That seems extreme. I mean maybe he isn't always frugal but he's struggling right now like so many people are," one of her followers commented.

"But $3 for a slice of cheese is criminal!" another wrote.

"Nah, I'm with him. Cheese should be included in the price and $3 extra for a 25 cent slice of cheese is outrageous," one said.

TikTokers felt her reaction was too 'harsh' and she has revealed they are going on a second date. (TikTok)

"I'm not even broke but I'm not about to pay three whole bucks for a slice of processed cheese," shared another.

Others understood her choice not to date the man again but felt leaving in the middle of the date was "harsh."

"That's a little harsh. I would have just never met up with him again," one wrote.

"The problem is people are too quick to judge someone off one comment. You didn't even give him a chance based on a piece of cheese," another said.

One attempted to explain: "I understand where you're coming from but think about it. A whole pack of cheese is like what? $3.50? They were charging him $3 just for one slice."
