'Wear a condom!': Shelly Horton and Ben Fordham discuss who should be responsible for contraception

By Bronte Gossling|

Contraception is, as Shelly Horton and Ben Fordham agree, a "sensitive" and "uncomfortable" topic จC especially when it comes to the differences between sexes, and who is responsible for what.

After Horton suggested a "radical idea" when it came to vasectomies "to put the onus back onto men" ?in the latest episode of 9Honey's He Said She Said series, Fordham revealed he will not be having a vasectomy himself.

"Why should I?"? he asked Horton. "Why should I go and have a medical procedure?"

To that, Horton brought up Fordham's wife Jodie Speers, asking Fordham, "So Jodie has to put chemicals in her body ?every month to stop having babies, and that's OK by you?"

"?Now hang on a moment," Fordham replied. "I want to be clear here... I'm not talking about Jodie's own business, that's Jodie's, and I've got to be conscious here that it's not my job to be talking about such personal matters in a forum like this without Jodie knowing about it."

Fordham then revealed to Horton that, occasionally after they've had a public discussion like such, Speers says to her husband, "You said what?!"

The 45-year-old 2GB radio presenter, however, did further open up about his personal decision to not have a vasectomy.

?"I've got to be tasteful with how I say this, and I'll just say it in a way where hopefully everyone can understand what I'm talking about without me crossing over a line to talk about something that I'm guessing would be private from Jodie's point of view," he began.

"I take responsibility for myself in that regard, but I'm not getting a vasectomy, because I don't want to have a medical procedure, and why should I have a medical procedure?"

Fordham highlighted how Speers and himself have three "beautiful" children, ?and how both of them have "toyed with the idea of a fourth."

"If that was to happen, it would probably be a crazy, joyous surprise from both of our points of view, that we'd just go, 'Oh well, we've got a fourth baby, how exciting, we weren't planning on it,'" he said, clarifying that he does "take responsibility" in "making sure that's not going to happen" as it's not what neither Speers nor Fordham want at this time.

Horton then said she and her husband have discussed a vasectomy จC which she says he would be happy for the audience to know จC and joked that although he offered to have one, she said, "My ovaries are probably like dust anyway, we're probably fine."

?Fordham and Horton then moved onto the topic of unwanted pregnancies due to unsafe sex, and sex education. Ultimately, their advice is, "Wear a condom!"
