Tiktok creator just_jashan posted a now-viral video of the little-known decorating method, revealing the true purpose behind an overlooked tree topper feature.

Most tree toppers จC be it stars or angels จC come with a mysterious spiral base attached.

"Apparently we've been putting the star on the Christmas tree on wrong this entire time," the Tiktoker exclaimed, clearly beside himself.?

He revealed the typical act of shoving the star onto the top of the tree was all wrong จC and that there's a much simpler way to add the final flourish to your tree.

As it turns out, the spiral design on the festive adornments isn't simply decorative, but serves a much more practical purpose.

The top branch of the tree, often appearing much longer than necessary, is intended to wrapped around the coiled base, securing it to the top of your tree.

"apparently you're supposed to wrap the branch around the coils, you're not supposed to shove it on."

And? when Jashan tried it for himself, he was instantly converted.

"It's straight! It's not hanging or drooping or dangling every time you touch the tree," he said in disbelief.

And people in the comments were equally shocked, with many ?expressing they were "today years old" when they learned of the festive hack.

"I'm 52 and am just learning this," one admitted.?

"I'm 60 years and I just folded it over and stuck it on top yesterday!! Will fix that," revealed another.

One more confessed ?that her husband had been in on this secret for years จC and she'd been on his case about doing it wrong the whole time.

"I have to apologise," she joked.?

Another divulged an alternate, more elder-friendly trick ?for attaching the topper, suggesting "You glue a hair clip to it and then clip it to the branches. You're welcome."
