Jelena Dokic has called out body shamers in a strongly worded statement posted to Instagram.

In the post shared to Dokic's personal account, she addressed a group of internet trolls who had been calling her "fat" and photoshopping images to make her look "bigger."

She started by writing, "I can't believe I have to address this again! I am being body shamed again and I am seeing comments and even articles about my weight and appearance. It's disgusting behaviour."

The 38-year-old Australian champion pleaded with trolls saying, "Just stop already. Not just when it comes to me but other people as well, especially women. This is a serious problem and one that women face all the time."

Dokic called the comments unkind and "ignorant" asking people to stop judging her based on size.

She said, "By doing this you might be doing damage and hurting someone else out there that you know nothing about and you have no idea what they might be going through. Stop judging me based on my size. You shouldn't be judging me at all."

The tennis star turned TV personality revealed that she has received hateful comments from trolls saying "why are you so fat?" and "you are unrecognisable?"

Dokic also addressed a slew of images circulating the internet that have been photoshopped to make her look bigger. She called the behaviour "disgusting" and said the people responsible "should be ashamed of themselves."

She shared the lengthy statement alongside a photo of herself concluding, "I am not ashamed of my size. I will continue to work on myself but not for the sake of looking better but feeling better and being healthier. Oh and here is a picture and video of me from today and it's not photoshopped like what some of you have done to make me look bigger."

"As always to the 99 percent of you that support me so much, thank you. It means the world to me and I love you all. Be kind." she finished.

The post garnered plenty of internet attention receiving over 11,000 likes with many people praising Dokic for her bravery and chiming in with messages of support.

Former Olympian Giaan Rooney responded to the post writing, "I'm so sorry you have to deal with this rubbish Jelena, but in all honesty, all I see is a beautiful former athlete who is insightful, articulate & passionate on the coverage."

Another user praised the tennis star writing, "Go you Jelena กช so strong and on point! Never give in to the idiots."

A third added, "How refreshing to see you call it out so quickly, so honestly, so directly. Power to you."

Late last year, Dokic announced she was taking a break from social media to recover from a "tough period" in her life. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the tennis star told followers she needed time to process "pain and trauma" she was going through.

She also recently announced her separation from her partner of 18-and-a-half years, Tin Bikic.
