Shelly Horton on Paris Hilton's four wedding dresses: 'Do what makes you happy'

By Shelly Horton|

Paris Hilton is getting a lot of grief over wearing four white wedding dresses during her marriage ceremony to Carter Reum over the weekend.

Look, she's a Hilton and an heir to the Hilton fortune, personally wealthy herself, and marrying a guy who is also loaded, so if she didn't have multiple gowns, I would have been disappointed.

I mean, I'm not rich at all and I had two gowns at my wedding!

Paris, 40, who is a celebrity and entrepreneur, married Carter, a venture capitalist, also 40, at a private estate in Los Angeles on Friday.

Shelly, 41, a journalist and business owner, married Darren, a 49-year-old sound recordist, on a cliff in Mexico.

It's like she copied me, really. Maybe not, maybe multiple gowns is where the similarities might end.

She stunned in her Oscar de la Renta wedding gown, then changed into an off-the-shoulder Galia Lahav satin gown with a corset top and a sweetheart neckline for the first dance.

Then, Paris swapped into a crystal-covered custom Pamella Roland gown for photos with guests. I really hope they were mainly selfies กช after all, she claims she invented them.

Towards the end of the night, Paris donned another Oscar de la Renta gown, which was in a much shorter style so she could boogie on the dance floor.

Back in 2005, I walked down the aisle in a rose gold sequined Academy Award-worthy wedding dress. It was my absolute dream dress. It was also $178 on Etsy. I think Paris may have spent a little more than that.

Let me tell you, however, a floor-length sequined dress with full corset is really hot. Especially in stormy Mexico.

So, I then changed for my reception dress into a soft navy blue number, which was actually designed by my friend, Catherine Colubriale, and given to me as a wedding gift. And that was light and cool, and the skirt flipped out so that I was ready for dance mode.

It made complete sense and was the right decision for me.

It doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune on designer dresses, but if you're as wealthy as Paris Hilton, then you can afford to spend that sort of money on dresses.

She's got a reality TV show happening. She's got very famous guests.

Every time she came out in a new outfit would have been a gasp moment.

I say, go for it. It's your day. Do what makes you happy.

My only rule is don't be a bridezilla! Make it fun! If outfit changes make you happy, do it. That's fantastic. But if changing outfits makes you stroppy and stressed, forget about it, don't do it.

If you love your perfect wedding dress, don't take it off all night. There shouldn't be any rules or judgement.

It's your day and you can wear as many dresses as you want to!
