TikToker's hilarious response to safety concerns over her pool noodle Christmas staircase DIY

By Rachael Gavin|

A? DIYer has defended the Christmas staircase project she posted on TikTok after viewers flooded the post with safety concerns.

Shayna Alnwick's video tutorial of the DIY shows how she used a pool noodle to create a stunning decorative feature on the handrail of her stairs.

To make the project Alnwick sliced the pool noodle down the middle and slid it over the handrail.

Next she secured the pool noodle to the handrail with zip ties? and attached a heap of ornaments and ribbons to the pool noodle using a hot glue gun.

"Now your staircase is a beautiful Christmas masterpiece," she said in the TikTok.

"The best part is you can cut the zip ties, take it off in one piece and apply it again for next year."?

The clip has since gone viral with 3.4 million views but copped a lot of criticism in the comments section.

"It's beautiful but railings are meant to be functional safety features. Be careful," a woman posted.

"I love all these ideas, but what if you HAVE to use a hand rail to get up or down¡ they only have the one¡ (I'm old)," another said.

"Until grandma falls down the stairs. But it does look good. I will adapt for somewhere else," wrote a follower.

Since the original post Alnwick? has responded to these comments in the best way possible, with humour.

In response to a question about getting to bed safely after "too much Christmas eggnog" Alnwick filmed herself going up the stairs using her hands and legs before sliding back down on her backside.?

Another video shows Alnwick telling her grandma she'll have to stay upstairs until after Christmas since she won't be able to use the railing.

But the funniest video hitting back at the safety claims shows her wrapping herself in bubble wrap and putting on floaties, a helmet and safety goggles. She then treads tentatively down the stairs warding off the 'dangerous' handrail with her hands.

The responses have been a hit with Alnwick's followers, who have also gone back to the original post to read all the concerned comments.

"It's the ONLY way to respond to these mssg's," one said.

"Too funny. I cannot honestly believe how dramatic everyone is over your banister garland. It's gorgeous!" a woman wrote.

"Best reaction ever!!!" another posted.?

While the safety concerns have a point, if you do need to use the handrail this probably isn't the DIY project for you. But if ?you don't mind having ornaments on the handrail, it's a fun way to get into the festive spirit.
