How to transform an empty chip packet into stylish Christmas gift wrapping

By Rachael Gavin|

Christmas is an expensive time of year so we're always looking for ways to save cash on our festive purchases.

TikToker Armen Adamjan, who goes by the handle @creative_explained, has come to the rescue with a video of money saving hacks for wrapping Christmas presents.

One of these tips seems, at first, to be a little out there, but when you think about it is actually brilliant.

And that tip is to use an empty chip packet as gift wrapping.

Watch the video above.?

All Adamjan does to reuse his chip packet into wrapping is turn it inside out, put the gift inside and wrap a ribbon around it.

"Shiny and free. Boom," he said in the video.

This idea is fantastic because not only is it free, but it gives us a way to reuse soft plastics that we currently can't recycle while the Redcycle program is paused.

The only problem with the hack, which many who viewed the video brought up in the comments, is that an empty chip packet would likely be greasy after having chips stored in it.

To solve this problem you're just going to have to wash the packet.

"Put warm water and a bit of dish soap and hold the bag closed and shake it and grease is not that hard to deal with?," one viewer said.

There is another benefit to using chip packets as wrapping paper, as another person pointed out.

"I'm going to have to stock up on my bags of chips! It's for a good cause hehe?," they posted.

But if empty chip packets aren't your thing, Adamjan had plenty of other options for Christmas gift wrapping?.

His suggestions included using a scarf "as a 2-in-1 gift", an old tablecloth, newspaper and a shoebox. Apart from the scarf, these other options all required ribbon to secure the gift and add a festive touch.

With all those ribbons you're using to wrap gifts in your recycled materials?, you might need somewhere to store them all.

Well, Adamjan also has a solution for that, using a plastic egg carton with holes cut in the top to thread the ribbon through.

This would work with the paper egg cartons we mostly use in Australia, as long as you haven't had any eggs break while in it.?

All of these hacks are good ways to recycle and cost nothing, but some of Adamjan's followers weren't on board with the ideas.

?"If anyone gave me a gift that was wrapped in a recycled chip bag, I would throw the whole thing away," one said.

"Where's the fun if you can't rip the wrapping paper?" another commented.

Others got on board with the creative ideas and even suggested using things like a T-shirt as wrapping.

"The chip bag one is genius," a person said.

"?I love decluttering tips that let people reduce, reuse, and repurpose! These are so creative and not only do they work, they look good!" a woman wrote.
