How to wrap your Christmas presents with fabric for an eco alternative that supports young people with cancer

W?ith the stress and rush of the festive season it can be hard to think beyond wrapping our Christmas presents in anything but store bought paper and gift bags.

But there is one option you can should this year that is not only eco-friendly, it will also help support young people impacted by cancer.

Furoshiki is the art of using a square piece of fabric to wrap gifts or anything you need to take from one place to another.?

Using one of Canteen's bandanas, or some gorgeous Christmas material, in this way is a great idea that gives the gift recipient an bonus present. Then they can either keep that to use at home or wear, or wrap presents in themselves the following year.

There are lots of furoshiki gift wrapping techniques for different shaped items, and thanks to Canteen we can show you how to wrap square or rectangular presents, and bottles.

How to wrap a square or rectangular gift

1. Lay your bandanna out on a flat surface and place the gift in the middle.

2. Take the bottom corner, and lay it over the gift, tucking the corner of extra cloth underneath.

3. Take the top corner, and lay it over the gift, tucking the corner of extra cloth underneath.

4. Bring the edges of each side towards the centre, meeting in the middle in a line pointing to the corners of each side.

5. Bring the side handles together and tie them in a knot at the top.

6. Tie the ends into a double-knot to secure.

7. Add some dried florals, slip a card or present tag in to finish off your wrapping and add some personalised? touches.

How to wrap a bottle gift

1. Lay your bandanna out on a flat surface with a corner point facing you and place the bottle standing upright in the centre.

2. Pull two opposite corners up around the top of the bottle.

3. Tie a double knot on top of the bottle.

4. Grab the two remaining corners of the Bandanna and wrap around your bottle, crisscrossing each other and tie in a knot.

5. Tie ends in a double knot or bow.?
