Fans obsessed with one key detail in organisation expert's plastic container storage video

By Rachael Gavin|

The plastic container cupboard or drawer is a top contender for the most chaotic spot in the kitchen. No matter how hard we try to keep it organised, this spot always seems to end up a huge mess.

Even organisation expert Kat Springer's plastics drawers need tidying every now and then. So she invited her followers to watch on while she cleaned and rearranged the items in the drawer in a recent Instagram reel.

Kat's impressive video showed her creating sections in each drawer to separate different containers and their lids.

Her preference for storing container bases is to nest similar shapes from largest to smallest.

As for those annoying lids that you can never find when you need them, Kat likes to keep them stacked on their sides.

This was easily achieved thanks to Kat's expandable drawer dividers, which her followers went wild for.

"I used these drawer dividers and they help to create sections in these big drawers. I like to keep my lids upright, just on the side and that's mimicked all throughout the other drawers as well," she said.

Kat used the drawer dividers to create smaller or larger sections depending on what she needed to store. For example, she made a slim section to stop a group of lids stored on their side from falling over.

"I need those dividers in my life," one follower commented after watching the video.

"Where did you get these drawer dividers???" another asked.

In addition to the drawer dividers, Kat also used clear micro trays, to keep smaller bits and bobs for snack containers neatly organised.

The plastic container drawers were organised based on what the containers were used for. Kat had leftover and snack containers in the top drawer with four sections, and larger containers in another drawer with three sections.

As part of the reorganisation Kat moved her measuring cups and jugs into the large container drawer.

The third drawer at the bottom didn't contain any plastic storage, it is instead used to organise mixing bowls, which are nested together from large to small.

Before reorganising the drawers Kat gave them a good clean to remove any crumbs and dirt that had found its way inside too. Then she went through her containers and got rid of any that were missing their lids.

If you're eager to get organising and want a quick solution for your plastic container lids try looking around the home first for unused storage items that might work.

Other home hack gurus have recommended using magazine holders or wire office racks. Another option for dividing your drawer is to use a storage container for lids or smaller containers.
