By Amy Lyall|

Whether you're ready to take your Christmas decorations down now or want to wait another week or so, a little pre-planning will save you lots of storage frustration.

Instead of just shoving everything in a box, there are some handy tips and tricks for storing your festive pieces with ease. These hacks will also make getting your decorations back out a breeze when December rolls around again.

Kicking off with your Christmas lights, there's a clever way to pack them without the risk of pulling out a tangled mess when you need them next.

One mum shared her tip in the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK and explained all you need is some cardboardกชwhich you probably have laying around anyway.

"Life hack and save you a bit of money! Use leftover cardboard from your Xmas pressies and use them to wrap your Xmas lights," she wrote.

She also posted a snap of her lights neatly wrapped around a piece of cardboard, which has a cut out at each end to loop the lights around.

The clever post racked up close to 3,000 likes and other members of the group were impressed with how simple it is.

"I do this and it makes putting lights on the tree so easy," wrote one user.

One user added another suggestion, "I wrap mine round a roll of Xmas wrapping paper."

But why stop at just your lights?

Invest in a tub specifically for storing Christmas decorations and ornaments and you'll have no dramas at all getting your home organised after the festive season.

The Ezy Storage 31L Christmas ornament storage tub with dividers holds up to 45 ornaments and can be picked up from Bunnings for just $20. The best thing is the tubs are stackable, making packing them away a breeze if you need more than one.

If you've got an artificial Christmas tree, you'll also want to find a solution for that too to keep it looking it's best while in storage for next year.

A Christmas tree storage bag is a great option because it's not only going to keep your tree dust free, but will make sure nothing gets damaged, no matter where you're storing it.

Don't forget all your bits and pieces for wrapping too.

I personally keep all of my gift tags, ribbons, sticky tape and smaller items for gifts in an old shoebox and while it's definitely not stylish, it does the job and tucks away neatly.

Another option is a bag designed for your wrapping paper and everything else, which you can snap up on Amazon or eBay.

Keeping your bits and pieces grouped together in specific places with smart storage solutions will make getting prepped for next festive season a breeze.
