This fridge can change colour to suit any kitchen style

By Kristine Tarbert|

When it comes to home appliances for the most part big ticket items can be purchased in a few basic colours จC like white, stainless steel, black etc.

Aside from the occasional bright blue toaster or kitchen aid, there isn't too much fun to be had in that department. That is until now, as the growing personalisation trend has officially ?moved into the kitchen.

Now you can get a fridge, for example, that can literally change colours to match any kind of style.

LG's Objet Collection brings colour into the kitchen thanks to interchangeable appliance panels you can customise in the hue that best suits your aesthetic.

The collection consists of three models จC a French door fridge, a single door fridge, and an upright freezer, marking a step towards personalised appliances that can match the mood and style of your kitchen.

The new line-up of refrigerators and freezers all have customisable door panels available in various colours and finishes, including silver, green or black stainless steel or beige, silver, pink or mint mist glass.

When I first got the French door fridge? delivered in forest green and stainless, I'll be completely honest, I wasn't a fan of the colour. Especially given we were about to install brand new charcoal-coloured kitchen cabinets, I just wasn't convinced it would suit.

But that's what this fridge is all about. Don't like it, change it.

So instead, we now have the same fridge, but instead of a green panel it has a matte black panel. When you're spending $6,000 on a major appliance you want to be 100 per cent happy with it.

One important factor to consider though if a colourful fridge or freezer is of interest: you can't change the coloured panels yourself. In the LG Objet collection FAQ section, the company mentions that only an authorised service agent can fit new panels, and DIY is not recommended.

Of course, when it comes to a fridge it isn't all about the colour. ?Performance is where it counts.

The LG Objet collection offers several food clever storage solutions, plus it has InstaView, which lets you look inside the French Door fridge without opening the physical door. Two quick knocks on the glass panel reveal the fridge's contents, while the cold air stays inside.

An LG technology called SurroundCooling also features in the French Door fridge, which circulates cold air from the front and back of the fridge to help extend food freshness.

Personally the InstaView door was a cool party trick but in reality I found you could really only put your 'pretty' beverages there otherwise the fridge would look all kinds of messy. You also couldn't really see what was behind the door shelves either so for the most part you'd still have to open the door to know exactly what's inside.

Mind you, the way the freezer is set up, completely with draws, was great. Every time I thought it was full, we fit more into it! It's deceptively big but you'll never find yourself digging thanks to the draws.
