Front doors, showers and mushrooms: Pinterest reveals its home trend predictions for 2023

By Rachael Gavin|

H?omes in 2023 could have stunning front entrances, epic showers, thrifted furniture and mushroom themed d¨¦cor if Pinterest's trend predictions come true.

The image sharing platform has released its trend report for next year, which is based on an analysis of the topics users have been searching for.

?And it's very likely these predictions will come true because Pinterest has an excellent track record for picking what will be hot in the future. In the past three years, it's had eight out of 10 trends come true, so the trend report is worth paying attention to.

"These topics are trending as people are planning for their homes in the new year, and from these search terms we can specifically see a focus on everything from furniture, to the outdoors and bathrooms," a Pinterest spokesperson said.?

Here are the home trends Pinterest is predicting for 2023:

Mushrooms

?Thankfully this trend, which Pinterest is referring to as "mush-rooms", isn't a desire to have fungi grow in our homes ¨C instead it seems the plant is becoming a popular shape and image in d¨¦cor.

Both Generation Z and Baby Boomers have been searching for mushroom inspired topics like fantasy mushroom art, vintage mushroom d¨¦cor, funky house d¨¦cor, weirdcore bedroom and DIY mushroom d¨¦cor.

This trend started to emerge in 2022, with the popularity of the mushroom lamp, which has gone viral on TikTok.

Still, it's a little left of field, even for the Pinterest team.

"I found the Mush-rooms trends to be the most surprising! It surprised me even more that Boomers, not just Gen Z, are embracing weirdcore design, mushroom d¨¦cor and fantasy art in their homes," the spokesperson said.

"For these trends, we've seen an increase in searches for vintage mushroom d¨¦cor and weirdcore bedroom which to me indicates that after two years stuck at home, Pinners are looking to completely shake things up when it comes to d¨¦cor."

Front doors and entranceways

The backyard is usually considered the place for outdoor entertaining and relaxing, but in 2023 it's our front doors, porches and fa?ades that Pinterest thinks we'll be updating.

Research shows both Baby Boomers and Generation X are planning on sprucing up their front spaces.

Pinterest search terms for this topic show people want to change the d¨¦cor in their entryway, ?looking for front porch and door inspiration and ideas for their front gardens.

But it's not just house fronts that are trending, Pinterest has also recorded a spike in users searching for camper van porches.?

?Showers

When we think of relaxing at home, long hot baths come to mind but perhaps not for much longer.

Pinterest predicts showers will be the place to be in the home with Generation X and Boomers searching for ways to enhance their shower time.

Users have been searching topics like shower routine aesthetic, shower bombs and home spas.

They are also searching for amazing walk-in showers and doorless shower ideas, which is a trend we are already seeing in bathroom design.

Vintage and thrifted decor and furniture has been trending for a while now and it's expected to stay on-trend in 2023.

Pinterest thinks this is due to our growing awareness of problems plaguing the environment.

"For 2023, Pinterest is predicting a continuation of the thrifted trend with searches related to antique furniture on the rise, highlighting that Pinners are searching for inspiration on using thrifted or antique furniture in different ways instead of buying brand new," the spokesperson said.

This trend is being driven by Baby Boomers and Generation X, with search terms highlighting an interest in mixing vintage pieces with modern furniture.

People are also thinking about repurposing antique windows and looking for eclectic interior design inspiration.
