Woolworths customers will be slapped with a $2 service fee on Sundays and public holidays from February 3.

One Woolies customer posted about the additional charge on Reddit's 'Woolworths' thread after being notified about it via email.

They shared part of the email they received from the supermarket giant which read: "To help with the extra wage costs of having our team members pick and pack orders on these days, from 3 February 2026 a Sunday/Public Holiday Service Fee of $2 will begin to apply to online deliveries for these specific days.

"This fee ensures we can continue to provide you with a reliable and quality service."

The customer added the comment: "So my $2 will subsidise wages rather than your increased profits? Sounds legit!!"

Another customer commented: "They always bring out these changes after I just paid for delivery unlimited for the year?."

"This is a way for them to reduce Sunday/PH online orders as a lot won't pay the fee and order on other days of the week," another speculated.

"They will then use the downturn in orders as a reason to reduce the Sunday/PH online team to save on wages.?"

One Redditor agreed, commenting: "Nailed it. It's a deterrence."

A Woolies worker weighed in on the debate, saying: "I work online on Sunday nights and it's one of the busiest slots to pick because of the bulk orders from daycares and schools.

"Online sales from Sunday are huge. Curious to see if this will change, because I think you're spot on.?"

"Nobody is making you order on a Sunday/public holiday, there's six other days in a week," one Woolies shopper said.?

One Redditor responded: "Not always true, if a public holiday is not on Sunday, there are not six other days in those weeks."

Woolworths confirmed the additional charge to nine.com.au.

"The majority of our online customers will not be impacted by the proposed Sunday and public delivery fee change and can continue to enjoy the same great value they expect from us across the week," a spokesperson said.

"This $2 service fee will progressively roll out from February and will only apply to orders delivered or collected on Sundays and public holidays where the cost to pick, pack and deliver those orders is higher than other parts of the week.
