The classics aren't going anywhere: The top 10 baby names around the country prove one trend won't stop

When it comes to baby names, Aussie parents are big fans of the classics.?

As we head into 2026, the states and territories have started to share the top baby names for boys and girls and one thing is for sure, there are some names which are dominating the lists again.

Longtime favourite names have taken over the top 10 once again but there's a new name for baby girls which took the top place in Canberra, while a new trend is emerging for girl names in South Australia.?

Here's a breakdown of the top baby names this year for boys and girls, as the states and territories around Australia release their data.?

So far the only state which has not released their name data for 2025 is Queensland. ?

The top 10 baby names in New South Wales

Well, New South Wales seems to be following the trend we're seeing across the country, with new data revealing Charlotte and Noah are firm favourites with parents here too.

Over the past decade, Charlotte has been in the top 10, and spent several years in the top spot, retaining the crown again in 2025 as the top name for girls.

Meanwhile, Noah again stayed in the number one spot for boys, with the top four names for boys remaining the same from 2024 to 2025. ?

The top 10 baby names in Tasmania

The classics are also dominating the top trends in Tasmania and once again, Charlotte and Noah are at the top.

Despite the names being much-loved for years in other states, Noah had a huge jump from 2024 to 2025, coming from sixth place to first, according to new Tasmanian Births, Deaths and Marriages data.

The top 10 baby names in the Northern Territory

The top data for the Northern Territory revealed some interesting trends compared to the rest of the country, with one very popular name missing from the top 10 for girls.

Charlotte, which has topped the ranks in almost every other state, didn't even make the top 10. Instead, Amelia took the top spot with Isla in second place and Hazel coming in at number three.

Meanwhile for boys, Noah snagged the top spot, proving it really was the hottest boys name around the country for 2025. ?

The top 10 baby names in Victoria

Victoria has released their data, with the top names reflecting similar trends we're seeing around the rest of Australia.

Victoria's Births Deaths and Marriages have shared the state's top 100 names for 2025, and we've pulled out the top 10 for boys and girls. ?

For girls, Charlotte has topped the list, with 362 baby girls given the name in 2025. For boys, it's Noah, with 511 little lads given the name. ?

The top 10 baby names in Western Australia

?Over in Western Australia there are a few new names which have entered the top ranks, although just like the rest of the country, the classics are still at the top.

In 2024 there was a tie for the top boys and girls names according to the Western Australian Government data.

Noah and Oliver and Isla and Charlotte claimed the equal top spot, but in 2025 Isla took the number one spot for girls, while Noah stayed in number one for boys.

There were also some new additions to the list, with Grace, Hazel and Sophia entering the top 10 for girls.

For boys, just one new name made the list, with William coming in at number 10.

The trend of naming in WA seems to be following the 100-year rule, with vintage names creeping up the list.

"2025 favourites Isla and Noah still have a long way to go to catch up with Margaret and John, WA's most popular names on record," Births Deaths and Marriages Acting Registrar Heath Bennett said.

"Margaret was the number one girls name for 22 consecutive years from 1930, when RBDM published records begin.

"John was most popular boys name for 21 consecutive years from 1930 and held a place in the top 10 for 42 years in a row."?

The top 10 baby names in the ACT?

Canberra's most popular baby names for 2025 for boys and girls have been revealed and for the first time one name has topped the list for girls according to a new release from the ACT Government.

Longtime favourites have dominated the list, but this time Evelyn has taken the top spot for girls จC climbing from 5th place last year.

Meanwhile Oliver returned to the top spot for boys.

The name Oliver previously topped the list in 2022, 2019 and 2010 and has been in the top 10 since 2008.

The top 10 baby names in South Australia

A much loved classic has taken the top spot for girls in South Australia, with Charlotte once again securing the number one spot.?

For boys, Oliver once again reigned supreme, taking the crown for the 13th year in a row, according to a new release from Births, Deaths and Marriages South Australia.

There were some changes though, with Noah narrowly beating out Henry to claim number two on the list as the second most popular boys name for 2025.

For girls, a new trend has emerged too, with floral inspired names shooting up the ranks. Violet and Daisy both moved into the top 10, up from 22 and 24 respectively in the list in 2024.
