Dad demonstrates his 'magic' trick to stop baby crying in 18 seconds

By Madhurima Haque|

It can be difficult to focus on anything when your baby is screaming their lungs out - but one dad has shared his 'magic' trick that gets an infant to stop crying immediately.

Posting a video his TikTok account @tuquedaddy, US dad Jonathan details the steps he takes to calm his baby down in exactly 18 seconds.

First, he crosses the baby's arms around itself in a 'self hug'. Then, he makes sure to hold the baby's arms and between the legs and lean the baby forward. Finally, he leans the baby forward and he stops crying instantly.

Commenters were amazed at the instant reaction from the baby.

"Bro forgot why he was mad," said one commenter. "I don't even know why I was crying," joked another.

"Don't delete this, I'll come after 10 years," one person said.

Many asked how this trick works, to which one person responded: "It's the position they were in inside of their mother! The bouncing is her walking about and stuff I believe!"

In a follow up video, he also demonstrates how to do this technique on a newborn. "It's actually easier to do when the baby is smaller," said the dad.

"You just (want to) hold them straight up tight under their armpits, against your chest, and with one hand in order to cross the arms. Make sure to put either his arms or your fingers under his chin for neck stability, before leaning the baby forward."
