Footage shows the frightening moment a jumping castle flies away

By Nikolina Koevska Kharoufeh |

A mum from North Carolina in the US has shared terrifying home security footage of the moment her five-year-old son was nearly hit by a jumping castle that had been picked up by strong winds in their backyard.

Jennifer Beane shared the video to her Facebook page as a warning to other parents, saying they hire the activity for their kids' birthday parties each year, but they will not do so again. "We are all still shaken up about it," she said.

The jumping castle had just been set up by the hire company in the family backyard, for their youngest Maddux's second birthday party, when strong winds snapped the straps holding it down and flung it towards their son Michael who managed to just escape being hit.

"Michael said it grazed his head and his back but he took off running away from it. It could have been much, much worse," the mum explained on the post.

In the clip you can see the moment a strong gust of wind picks up the blow-up castle. Five-year-old Michael was walking towards the house to come inside at the time when he sees the castle quickly coming towards him.

The wind is so strong it flips the castle over and sends it all the way across the yard, smashing into the back patio.

Michael quickly runs in the opposite direction, narrowly missing the out of control structure. Just a few seconds later, his mum and family friends run outside to see if any children have been injured.

"Are ya'll in there?!" you hear one man yelling as he checks inside the castle.

Luckily there were no kids in the castle as they were all eating inside the house at the time.

"We had just gone inside and Cooper saw it in the air from inside and screamed at us and we all took off outside. Thank the good lord everyone was safe," the mum wrote on the post.

"It could have been much, much worse. Please if you get a bounce house be sure to watch out for how bad the winds will be."

Jennifer said she didn't realise just how close it got to injuring her son until she watched the home security video that captured the scary moment.

"Best believe I squeezed the heck outta Michael for a good while after I watched it!" she wrote.

The video has left other parents in shock.

"How scaryกญ glad everyone was safe and thank you for sharing. a reminder for everyone how quickly it can turn!" one woman wrote. Another said: "So glad none of the babies were in it or hurt that is so scary, my heart dropped watching this."

When asked about why the castle was still set up by the rental company in such dangerous weather conditions the mum said, "The guy that set it up said to watch the winds but I would have preferred him to have said it was too risky to leave it."
