Dawson's Creek star and father-of-six James Van Der Beek has shared his secret to calming a crying baby with fellow parents กช and it's surprisingly simple.

The actor posted a video on his TikTok page, holding his adorable newborn son Jeremiah and explaining to mums and dads the power of the acronym CALLLM.

He says following the CALLLM guide has helped him greatly through raising his six children, as it helps you figure out exactly why your baby is crying and deal with the situation at hand. Parents around the world are amazed at how effective it is.

In the video captioned, 'What to do with a #cryingbaby?', the famous dad spells out C-A-L-L-L-M and then proceeds to explain what each letter stands for.

"The first C is 'Connection'. Recognise that every moment is an opportunity for connection with your baby", he explains. "Showing them that you're able to be there."

A, he says, stands for 'Acceptance'. It's important for parents to just accept in the moment that their baby is crying, "A lot of peace can come from acceptance".

"First L is 'Love'. Inject some of that love into the situation", he tells parents, saying it's a way to calm your baby by showing them affection and support.

The next L stands for 'Listen', which Van Der Beek explains is important to figure out what your baby needs.

"From there you can go to 'List'. Are they tired? Are they overtired? Are they cold? Hot? Hungry?", he continues, running through each reason the baby may be crying.

"'Magic'. That is something you as a parent can offer. It's your own magic. It may be a song. Your own way of holding them, rocking them. That's something you discover."

He finished the video with a cheerful, "Happy Parenting everybody!"

During the clip, little Jeremiah is stretching and wriggling around his dad chest, looking snug and peaceful as he takes a nap.

After six kids, the dad has had plenty of practice taming crying babies. He and wife Kimberly Van Der Beek are parents to Olivia, 11, Joshua, nine, Annabel, six, Emilia, four, and Gwendolyn, three.

"Oh my, this is just the best advice, and so important to hear when you're a new parent", one person wrote.
