Kristen Bell shares family's unusual sleeping arrangement

By Nikolina Koevska Kharoufeh |

When it comes to family sleeping arrangements, different things work for different households - including celebrity families.

In a recent episode of her husband Dax Shepard's podcast, mum-of-two and actress Kristen Bell admitted their whole family sleeps in the same room. "The girls sleep on the floor of our bedroom," she said.

Bell made the admission while recalling a bedroom incident involving a horrible smell coming from the couple's mattress that their two girls Lincoln, eight, and Delta, seven, turned the bedroom inside out to investigate.

In the Armchair Expert episode Bell sat alongside her husband to deliver the story of a smell in their bedroom that lead her to "almost hit the deck. I almost passed out."

Bell said she could smell a "really raunchy smell" and just assumed it was somebody farting in the room.

"So I go, 'OK, my family has gas.' I wake up in the morning and I go, 'Wow, nobody's gas has dissipated, but it also smells like it's burning'," she continued. But when the smell didn't go away she got her daughters to help investigate where it was coming from.

The family thought perhaps there was some poo from the dog left in a corner somewhere, and flipped over all the furniture in the room to check but couldn't find anything.

It was soon after that Bell found the culprit. "I lean down and smell the mattress, Dax's corner, his feet corner of the mattress, and I almost hit the deck," she said.

Shepard explained that he had accidently filled their OOLER mattress pad, with protein shake rather than water. The pad is a sleep system that uses water to cool and heat a bed during the night.

It took the couple multiple washes with a power washer to get the shake out of the tubes and properly clean the pad, Bell telling listeners to ensure they never make the same mistake.
