Mark Wahlberg says son copied iconic look, despite kids being 'terribly embarrassed' by his past

When our children are little, it is hard to do anything wrong in their eyes.

Fast forward a few years and it becomes increasingly difficult to impress your children. By the times they are teens, pretty well everything a parent does is just 'cringe'.

And it seems being one of the biggest stars in Hollywood does not make you immune to this, with Marky Mark himself, Mark Wahlberg admitting his children find his previous fashion choices embarrassing.

Wahlberg, 51, and wife Rhea Durham are parents of four children, Ella, 18, Michael, 16, Brendan, 13, and Grace, 12.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight he was asked what his children think of the fashion he rocked during the 1990s, when he was best known as the frontman of the American hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

"They are terribly embarrassed by it," he began, before adding, "But my son, the whole time we were on summer break, doesn't have a shirt and his underwear [was] hanging out. Totally stole the whole look," he said, referring to his signature style at the time.

It is not the first time Wahlberg has spoken about his children's views on his Marky Mark rapping era. During a previous appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he said, "They've seen videos of me performing and they're mortified."

And it wasn't just his hip-hop days that failed to impress, with him adding, "Even the stuff that other people think is, like, cool in 2002, like movies and stuff? 'Dad, it's so dumb. Dad, that's terrible'."

Earlier this year he told the US TODAY show he failed to impress his youngest daughter Grace with the role he considers his greatest, in the movie Father Stu.

"My daughter looked at me and goes, 'Dad, this has got to be the most boring movie I've ever seen'," he said.

However, he has found one way to impress his sons.

"They're playing golf and they know that I can play pretty good, so they're impressed with that," he told TODAY. "And they're impressed with the relationships that I have with lots of professional athletes."
