American mum baffled over unexpected object in Bluey episode

By Heidi Krause|

An American mum has been left confused while watching an episode of the hugely popular Aussie children's TV show, Bluey.

"Inquiring minds would love to know what's up with the wine bottle in the bushes in Daddy Robot," mum Amanda asked in a parents' Facebook group.

Alongside her question, was a screenshot from an episode showing dad Bandit walking past a bush with the item in question poking out.

Other Aussie parents immediately chimed in, telling the mum it was, in fact, a cricket bat. ?
"Any Australian will tell you it's a cricket bat. Not a paddle. Not a bottle of wine - it's a cricket bat!" said one.

"How big are your bottles of wine that they'd take up that much of a bush?" joked another.

"Haha definitely a cricket bat. We aren't that complacent with our booze over here," laughed a third.

The mum thanked the other parents for clearing up any confusion, triggering a bigger discussion about the national sport.

"I am an American that unfortunately doesn't follow cricket," Amanda explained in a follow-up comment.

"As an American, I do pay attention to what other countries play. I do not understand how that game is scored though," responded one.

"Do you not have cricket in America?" asked another.

"Nope. I mean we have the bugs, but not the game. There are small groups of people who play (usually expats though). I watched for a long time one day and left more confused than I started."

Another mum seized the opportunity to direct those keen to learn more about the sport: "For anyone in the USA wanting to learn more about cricket the Women's T20 World Cup starts next week?," she shared.

And many others simply enjoyed the hilarious commentary on the post.

"It's currently 3:41am in the UK and I've been up all night trying to get my nine-month-old son to stay asleep!" said one. "It never occurred to me that Americans might mistake a cricket bat for a wine bottle, but I love that some of you have! Comedy gold."

Bluey follows a family of Blue Heelers living in suburban Brisbane and is now the highest-rating program in the history of ABC Kids.

Since it launched in Australia in 2018, the show has exploded in popularity around the world and spawned a multi-million dollar merchandise industry.

It's now viewed in more than 60 countries, including the US, and a gigantic balloon replica of Bluey even featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Clearly, Bluey is having a massive impact in the US and educating families about Australian culture.

Another mum Kait, from the US, recently shared how her morning routine had to change due to her little one's obsession with the Heeler family.

"Every Wednesday I have to get the tiny human up extra early so she can take out 'the bins' with me. I feel like my life has just become reenacting all the different episodes of Bluey," she explains in a TikTok video

"Who else's American child is out here speaking in an Australian accent?"

Australians who saw the TikTok are proud of Bluey's impact as an international influencer.

"As an Australian - we are not sorry," said one commenter. "Bluey is a national treasure."
