Mum furious after sister-in-law's punishment causes son to wet himself

By Madhurima Haque|

A mum is furious after her son was forced to wet his pants while being cared for by her sister-in-law.

The upset mum posted on Reddit, explaining she left her four-year-old son, who has ADHD and a medical condition, in the care of her husband while she attended the funeral of her best friend.

In the middle of the funeral, she received a text from her sister-in-law telling her to pick up her child from their home after he wet himself.

"I was all kinds of shocked and confused and had many questions in mind like how the hell my son ended up at (my) sister-in-law's house. I called my husband but he didn't answer or call back," said the mum.

Once she got to her sister-in-law's house, she found her child crying and still in his soiled clothes. Her sister-in-law said that the child was making so much noise while playing that they put him in time out, which was 90 minutes long.

The boy had begged to go to the toilet but the sister-in-law's husband denied him access, leading the child to pee right where he was standing.

"I berated them for treating my son cruelly and denying him a simple request. I asked how could they do this to a child with a condition when they themselves are parents," said the mum. The woman's sister-in-law was offended by the comment, saying it implied she and her husband were neglectful parents.

When the woman's husband came home, he was "fuming", asking why she had berated his sister and her husband after they did him a favour by watching the little boy while he dealt with an "emergency".

"I asked him if he was okay with the way they treated my son and he said no, but the way I went about it was totally wrong and said I should apologise to them," she wrote.

"I said no, they did him a favour as I never asked them to watch my son. He said still I had to apologise but I loudly said 'In your dreams' after how my son was treated."

The husband called her juvenile for refusing to apologise.

While her husband may have thought the woman was in the wrong, fellow Redditers did not.

"I couldn't agree more, that is abusive behaviour. My parenting rule was a maximum time out for a child should be a minute per year of age, so four minutes maximum," one person wrote.

"Also routinely denying access to the bathroom for a four year old is also abusive. I sure hope they never are allowed around your son again!!!"

"This wasn't a time out. It sounds like (the woman's sister-in-law) and her husband didn't want to deal with (her) child, so they stuck him somewhere by himself and ignored him until it wasn't an option anymore," said another person.

The woman's husband did not escape the wrath of Reddit commenters, with many saying it was heartless of him to leave the boy with others while his wife attended her best friend's funeral.

"Your husband is trash," said one commenter plainly, "He doesn't care about your son's wellbeing or yours. You went to a funeral for someone you deeply cared about, he dumped your kid off to his family who mistreated him, and then blamed you for telling them off."
