Mum sparks debate after gifting gamer son mini fridge for Christmas: 'Really sad'

By Madhurima Haque|

One mum is being criticised for enabling her gamer son's lifestyle after admitting she "hasn't seen him" since she bought him a mini-fridge for Christmas.

In a TikTok video, mum Lesley approaches her 10-year-old son's "man cave" where he is sitting in the dark playing video games. As she goes inside, the mini-fridge can be seen in the corner, and she opens a rubbish bin filled with chocolate wrappers and empty soda cans.

"When your gamer son asks for a mini-fridge for Christmas and you haven't seen him since," wrote the mum in the caption.

The video sparked a heated debate about whether he was too young for such a set-up. Some commenters did not appreciate the mum's approach.

"I find this really sad," said one commenter. "Parent fail..." declared another.

"He will be there till he's 41," one commenter predicted. "Wouldn't be having that not a chance," said another parent adamantly.

Others defended the child's hobby.

"Aww my son used to be the same as long as there happy.. used to fill his little fridge for him, bless," said one mum

"(To be fair) if I had that set up at that age you wouldn't be seeing me either. When halo 3 came out I played until the birds came up haha. Glad the lad happy," said one commenter.

"Here come all the Karen's saying "I wouldn't be having that my kid can play outside" like they can't do both," another defended.

"'This is so sad.' That's legit how half of u got into gaming in the first place, nothing about this is sad, he's having fun like we all did," added another commenter.

"You saw one video, on one aspect of this child's life and you dictate his entire personality off his hobby?," pointed out one person.

The mum since posted a response to all her critics saying: "What kind of person calls a 10-year-old child a brat? Shut up about things you clearly know nothing about."

She also uploaded a video of her son on a go-kart, to show that he does go outside to play.
