Baby's birth certificate application rejected twice due to unusual name

By Naomi White|

W?e've all seen examples of unusual baby names. The ones that are memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Twins with near-identical names a little girl named Halo and Bair (Bear, but made 'unique'); there are as many creative names as there are babies. I've even met an Emily spelt Mle.

While these are harmless enough, and may stir no more controversy than a snide comment or two, one mum's chosen moniker was so unusual it saw her baby's birth certificate rejected. Twice.

She had originally wanted to use a single numeral for her son's name. (Reddit)

Posting in a mum's group, the proud new parent explained why she'd thought Seven was the perfect name for her son. Only, she wanted the name to be numerical.

The name shocked one ?person so much, they reposted it to Reddit, captioning a screenshot of the post with: "A name too unique for Frank Zappa,"? Zappa himself having chosen quirky names for his kids Moon, Dweezil, Diva and the more common Ahmet.

"I thought this was so cool lol. My son's name is 7. When I put him on the scale today he weighed 7Ibs, 7.7oz. 7777," the mum had posted, alongside a photo of her son which was blurred by the Redditor.

"I actually had to send his birth certificate off three times. The first time I tried 7, it was denied. So I tried Se7en and it was denied. I finally caught on that we are not allowed to have numbers in our names, but our names can be a number."

The penny finally dropped for the mum. (Reddit)

Fellow Redditors were equally shocked by the mum's choice.

"Had to read this seven times because I cannot comprehend giving your child a literal number for a name," said one.

"Guys guys, she's just a movie enthusiast," said another referencing the thriller Se7en.

"I have a cousin in his late 40's who is STILL annoyed his parents named him J. Just the letter J," shared another.

"I think the name Seven wouldn't be that bad, but she named him '7' the number which I think is very dehumanising," one person added.

However, others argued it could be worse.

"I'll take a normally-spelled unusual word for a name over a regular name with an unintuitive spelling," said one.

"I don't hate the name Seven. It sounds nice and is easy to spell, pronounce, etc. Definitely not worse than Paxtyn, Braxtin, and Jaksyn," agreed another.
