Mum-to-be kicks husband out of delivery room for 'selfish' act

By Georgia Weir|

Labour is one of the most physically and mentally gruelling things a woman will ever do in her lifetime. The people a woman chooses to be in the room for the birth need to be present and supportive throughout the process.

One woman has revealed that her husband was too busy playing on his phone and talking to his mates while she was in active labour - so she kicked him out of the delivery room.

Sharing her story on Reddit, the anonymous new mum explained that was in labour for 26 hours "in a lot of pain" with no epidural.

"My husband was constantly on the phone either playing games or talking with his "bros" being really loud, when I asked him to please hang up the phone and then like 10 mins later call them back," she explained.

The dad-to-be's friends had gone on a boys' trip without him because, clearly, the woman needed her husband to stay back so he would be there when she went into labour.

"He apologised to them blaming it on me being a nag. I was really annoyed and told him if he wanted to talk to his friend he could do that elsewhere so I can be in pain in peace," she continued.

The husband eventually relented and said he would call them back in 20 minutes. However, the poster's mother-in-law then FaceTimed her husband.

"He proceeded to put me in the video call," the outraged new mum wrote. "His mum makes a comment about how she remembers when she was in labour with him and that she still did herself up, she even claimed she looked so good the doctor even was flirting with her."

At this point, the upset and exhausted woman had trouble holding herself back.

"A nurse ends up coming in and could tell I was upset and asks me if everything was alright and I tell her I just really want to be alone," the mum revealed.

The husband was subsequently kicked out of the delivery room and missed the birth of his first-born daughter.

"He was p---ed off that I got the nurse to kick him out the room," she said. "He refused to come see his daughter afterwards because he was angry at me for kicking him out."

In fact, the irate husband said that her actions ruined a bonding moment between him and his baby.

"My mother-in-law, who did visit me in the hospital, wouldn't stop talking about how I'm such a bad wife for removing my husband from the room."

Reddit users were quick to come to the mum's defence.

"I would've filed for divorce the second I left the hospital with that behaviour," said one. "That's a whole lot of red flags from your husband."

"He chose to leave the hospital. He chose to boycott the hospital. He chose to be a jerk in the delivery room by not being there for you and for Face Timing with his mum who started to make everything about her (who does that?)" another declared.

"I'm pregnant and if he did even one of the things on this list while I was actively in labour I would get my friends to pack my s-- up and never come home to him. This is disgusting behaviour," commented another.

Another user pointed out the ridiculousness of talking to friends about a boy's trip, "I'm sorry that you didn't get the support you needed because your husband was too busy checking in with his bros."
