Cat owners share their tips to stop cats climbing their Christmas trees

The holiday season is approaching, and it's a gift that keeps on giving จC from presents, to parties, family dinners and, of course, the hours spent untangling lights and tinsel to place somewhat delicately around a tree.

For your average household, baubles and dangling lights aren't a problem. For the household with fourจClegged furry friends, particularly those with pointy ears, whiskers and a long tail, it's time to pet-proof the tree.

Everyone can be mesmerised by pretty Christmas lights and shining ornaments, and your cat is no exception. There are plenty of trees that haven't made it to Christmas morning.

Cats love places to hide and climb, and trees are full of toys for them to play with and climbing the tree will offer them a view of the house they've never seen before.

Whilst your pet can look adorable in little Christmas costumes, they might not be so cute when entangled in a tree you've spent hours decorating, as it also can be quite dangerous.

So how exactly does one prevent their cat from climbing the tree?

One person took to Reddit as a cry ?for help after the 'foil' method didn't work.

In the more than 600 comments on the post, one user suggested sprinkling pepper on the tree so it will fall on a cat as it climbs, or perhaps placing orange slices around the tree could work.

Another user shared their tip of having the tree in a fixed position: "I just anchor mine to the wall, like you would for cabinets in a child's room. There's still a mess with it, but it doesn't fall to the floor anymore. ?"

Others simply suggested to stop trying.?

One of the top comments said, "?If you find out, let me know. We stopped trying about 15 years ago."

Another ?claimed they hadn't put up a tree in years, they said, "I've always figured, you can have an intact Christmas tree, or a cat, but not both. Same goes with nice furniture."

Overall the most common tips among Reddit users were simply to accept your fur baby is the best ornament you can buy and the perfect angel to top the tree.
