Prince William shares Princess Diana's impact on his perception of homeless people

Prince William has opened up about how his mother, Princess Diana, shaped his perception of homeless people.
In his upcoming ITV documentary, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, the royal said the late Princess of Wales made sure to take himself and his brother Prince Harry to the shelter.

Then only 10 years old, he shared, "?I'd never been to anything like that before and I was a bit anxious as to what to expect.
"My mother went about her usual part of making everyone feel relaxed and having a laugh and joking with everyone.
"I remember at the time kind of thinking well if everyone's not got a home, they're all going to be really sad. But it was incredible how happy an environment it was."

He recalls a particular moment that jolted him, sharing that he was making conversation and playing chess when someone slipped into conversation that they were on the street ?the night before.
"That's when it dawned on me that there are other people out there who don't have the same life as you do," he shared in the documentary
"When you're quite small you don't really... you just think life is what you see in front of you. You don't really have the concept to look elsewhere and it's when you meet people จC that I did then จC who put a different perspective in your head."

The 42-year-old has carried on his late mother's mission, ?founding the Homewards program in 2023 with the aim of making homelessness "rare, brief and unrepeated", as per their mission statement.
While they do this in a physical manner, providing space, tools and expertise to locations across the UK, they also do it through local storytelling, as William is doing through ?his new project.
This new documentary, airing soon on ITV, follows the royal through the first year of establishing the Homewards program, including the ?"powerful stories of those currently facing homelessness or who have lived experience of the issue, alongside some life-changing solutions," as per a press release.
