By Madhurima Haque|

A clip of European royal women has royal fans puzzled, wondering why Crown Princess Mary of Denmark was made to curtsy to Camilla, Queen Consort, while others like Queen Rania of Spain didn't.

The European royals gathered at Buckingham Palace on November 30th to raise awareness of violence against women and girls. Among the guests ?were Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, Queen Mathilde of the Belgians, Queen Rania of Jordan, and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.

"Today, a remarkable group of people gathered at Buckingham Palace with one aim จC to see the end of violence against women and girls. I was deeply moved and inspired by their stories," wrote Camilla, Queen Consort, on The Royal Family's official Twitter account.

We have the answer?.

"The reason Crown Princess Mary of Denmark had to curtsy to Camilla, the Queen Consort is simple and it has everything to do with royal hierarchy," says 9Honey's royal reporter Natalie Oliveri.

"Camilla is Queen and Crown Princess Mary is not. Upon the death of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain, Camilla assumed the title of Queen and is now addressed as Her Majesty.

"Crown Princess Mary is lower in rank จC her husband Crown Prince Frederik is still heir to Denmark's throne. Once his mother Queen Margrethe II passes, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will move up the order of succession to the very top. It is then, and only then, that Mary will no longer have to curtsy to any other royals," explains Oliveri.

"We have seen Crown Princess Mary show respect to other royals higher than her in the past by giving a curtsy. Most recently in June, during a visit to the Netherlands, Crown Princess Mary gave a deep curtsy to Queen Maxima and her husband King Willem-Alexander. And we've seen Crown Princess Mary do this many other times with not only Queen Maxima but other monarchs, including Japan's then-Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko in 2015.

"Crown Princess Mary curtsying to Camilla, the Queen Consort, was a show of respect to her higher position."

"The other royal guests Queen Rania of Jordan and Queen Mathilde of Belgium did not have to curtsy to Camilla because they are on the same level as the Queen Consort," says Oliveri.
