Bec Judd reveals unique feature in Spanish Colonial home

Popular TV host, author, business owner and design lover Bec Judd, along with her former AFL star husband Chris Judd, purchased a Spanish Colonial house in Melbourne to turn into their "forever home" in March 2018.

Bec endeavoured to renovate the property without changing the original bones of the house, and the makeover has officially reached the pointy end.

"We looked for almost 18 months for a house that was perfect for our massive family," Bec exclusively tells 9Honey.

When the 36-year-old elected to buy a new home, an expansive outdoor entertaining area was a major priority. Now that the outdoor space is coming together, it's proving to be a distinctive feature of the house.

"There's an outdoor kitchen which features a barbecue, a wood-fire, a little bench seat which will be upholstered in the arch theme, an area to store all the wood, and a massive bench," Bec says.

Aside from being visually stunning, the entertaining space will be complete with some signature fabric pieces that take it to the next level.

"We've ordered all this amazing outdoor furniture. It's this new outdoor velvet which is kind of unheard off. We're doing these pink outdoor velvet chairs and a blue velvet on the dining chairs. It's going to be quite vibrant," Bec says.

Bec shares that the paving is expected to be completed at the end of the week.

"The paving is done in a beautiful fan style which complements the arch shape on the landing and in the driveway. And we've got beautiful ashla style tundra marble pavers for the rest of the house," Bec says.

"The tundra marble has been hand cut in all the various shapes we needed for the different parts of the house."

The backyard is also fully equipped with a fish pond that's been crafted in the arch style of the home.

"The previous owners tried to have grass there, but it was pretty much just sand and moss because it was so dark. So, we decided to put a fish pond in there, a big massive paver as steppers and beautiful ground creeper to keep it green and lush," Bec says.

She adds that the multi-purpose backyard was a non-negotiable in their original renovations plans.

The tennis court has a roll-away net on wheels which means that the backyard can be transformed into a basketball court, football field, or an area to ride scooters and bikes.

"It was really important to have all those areas in the one space. It's more like a sporting arena," Bec says.

Bec and her husband Chris bought the Spanish Colonial style home in March 2018.

However, it wasn't a seamless path to finding the right home that fit their original criteria.

"The orientation on this home worked really well with the tennis court that we use for a yard. With the connection between the pool, the outdoor barbecue kitchen space, and the court," Judd says. ?

"I wanted to be able to look from the top of the house and be able to see all the areas at once and always see what my children are doing. We were really patient until we saw the house with the right orientation, and this one nailed it."

The family are planning to move into the home in late September after renovations took remarkably quicker than they anticipated.
