There were quite a lot of people who said they clean the microwave plate every time they use it?, but the most popular answer seemed to be "when it needs it".

"?If something spills then I wipe it with a wet cloth/washing up liquid;but don't always remove the whole plate. Otherwise, about every two weeks-ish," one commented.

"?Tbh, only if something bubbles over onto it. I'll then remove it and give it a good clean. Otherwise, I just wipe it over with a damp cloth," wrote a member of the Facebook group.

According to experts the microwave should be cleaned at least monthly, with some recommending more frequent cleans depending on how often the appliance is used.

"?The best way to keep your microwave clean is regular maintenance. When you start noticing stains in its interior, you should clean them off immediately," Maddison Dillon said in a microwave cleaning guide for cleaning agency Absolute Domestics writes.

"Otherwise, once a week or once a fortnight is recommended to avoid general grease build-up, depending on how often you use your microwave oven."
