Woman turns to the internet for help after 'painstaking' sticky label removal attempts fail

By Rachael Gavin|

The struggle to remove a sticky label from a new purchase is one most of us have experienced.

But for one woman her attempt to remove the labels from plastic dinner bowls turned into a lengthy saga that at one stage had her on the verge of throwing the bowls out.

At the beginning of her sticker removal process, the woman asked for advice for how to get them off easily on Reddit.

Those tips only got her so far though as the label came off but the residue from the sticker was left behind.

"?So far, boiling water and Dawn dish soap doesn't work. In the second picture, I spent 20+ minutes picking at the sticker, then soaked in boiling water with soap, then scrubbed with a scrub daddy for about 5 minutes and there is still adhesive in the bowl. I am probably going to have to throw these away," she posted on reddit.

"Seriously asking, if I use goo gone, will it wash completely off afterwards and be safe to eat out of?"

There were plenty of suggestion hacks to remove the adhesive and remaining labels including cooking oil, hair dryer, isopropyl alcohol?, vodka, WD-40 and eucalyptus oil.

"I just bought some of these at Walmart today and I used 90% rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to rub the adhesive off then hot water with dawn dish soap! Hope this helps," one Redditor commented.

The woman with the sticky label issue added that she doesn't have a dishwasher or hair dryer so she can't try those to help lift off the adhesive either.

"The only thing that works is painstakingly picking them off and then they shred into little ribbons and leave the adhesive on the bottom of the bowl. I'm currently looking for a paint scraper to try to scrape them but it's of course going to scratch the heck out of the bowls. I'm going to have to throw all of these away,"

In a recent update she advised she was going to try vinegar next.

She also wondered if there was an issue with the particular shipment her bowls came in as someone else told her they bought the same bowls and the labels came off in one go.?
