By Rachael Gavin|

W?hether you're making over an entire room or just need a new sofa, it's hard to picture how the pieces you like will actually look and fit in the space.

Until now that is with the launch of a new digital experience from Ikea lets you scan a room, remove your own furniture and insert the pieces you're thinking of purchasing.

Ikea Kreativ is an AI-powered feature on the Ikea app that gives shoppers the ability to play interior designer in their own home, trying out different colours and styles in their rooms to help them figure out how they want the space to look.

?"IKEA is passionate about helping people create a better life at home, and the most exciting opportunity with this tool is its power to democratise home design and put it in everyone's hands," Christine Gough, Ikea Australia interior design leader said.

"IKEA Kreativ can really break down barriers to having new ideas, designing, decorating and shopping for home furnishings, where people can feel the magic of the IKEA physical stores, through a virtual space."

The free app feature is patented technology that uses similar visual AI to that used in self-driving cars to generate a 3D model reconstruction of real home spaces.

It includes more than 50 3D existing showrooms for customers to get inspiration and try out different product ideas, a scene scanner feature so you can take photos of your own rooms which are turned into an exact replica and a save, share and bu?y function so you can add products to your cart or share you design ideas with family for feedback.

If once you've put in the products you're considering for the room you decide they don't quite work together or suit the look you envisioned for the space, you can simply remove them and try out other options and combinations until you come up with something you like.
