Unlikely $42 Kmart product saves woman hundreds on firewood storage

By Rachael Gavin|

A Kmart shopper has found a way to save hundreds on buying a wood storage unit for her fireplace by using a gardening product.

Samantha, who goes by @kmarthackqueen on Instagram, had just purchased a new fireplace and needed somewhere to store wood for it, but with firewood storage units ranging in price from $60 to $495, she looked for a cheaper alternative.

The budget-friendly alternative Sam chose was Kmart's $42 ?metal tiered plant stand.

"Don't have to spend over $400 on a wood rack! Go to Kmart and purchase a Metal Tiered Plant Stand for $42. Looks good and great size for putting different size wood logs," she captioned a photo of the stand in use next to her fireplace.

The storage hack was a hit with Samantha's followers, with some keen to try it themselves.

?"That's so clever to use it," one said.

"Such a clever idea! Those log holders are expensive!" commented a follower.?

"Love it! Getting two for my verandah wood! Thanks," another commented.

However, one person was concerned the plant stand wouldn't be sturdy enough to hold the weight of the wood.

According to the Kmart website, each tier is able to hold up to 3kg, so if you're worried about weight it's best to keep under that limit.

"Plants are heavy if you think about it," Sam said in response to the weight concern.?

?Another of Sam's followers said they'd used an unlikely Kmart product for their firewood storage too.

"I used a bedside table from Kmart... put it together with draw on bottom, [table] legs hold wood?," she said.

But for one woman the plant stand is being used for an entirely different storage purpose.

"My kids have taken this over as a ball rack. The best one we've had too. One day I'll use it for plants," she said.
