Supermarket Sleuths: Important detail on supermarket sales tags that could help you save

By Jo Abi|

Per unit pricing is the best way to figure out if you are paying the lowest prices possible for grocery items at the supermarket.

Customers can find the per unit cost of items on sales tags, usually for weighted products such as pre-packaged meats, fruits and vegetables.

For this week's Supermarket Sleuths I noticed per unit pricing has gone next level. I spotted sales tags that included per units price for teabags. Not by weight as I have seen many times before, but by individual teabags.?

Not all the sales tags at my local Coles store were consistent in their per unit pricing. (Coles/9Honey)

They have been marked down from $7.80 to $6.20 which means customers are paying $2.58 per 100 grams.

But customers can easily figure out the per teabag pricing for these, which is 6 cents per bag ($6.20 divided by 100).
