"As a paediatrician, I put my kids to bed very, very early and many people think it's kind of controversial. As a general rule of thumb, we try to get all of our kids, ages seven all the way to 15, starting to lay down or get ready for bed around 7:30pm," he explained in the video.?
"This most often allows us to get the littles to sleep around 7:30 and get the bigger kids ready to go to sleep between 8:30 or so."

As a paediatrician, he said he recognises and prioritises sleep because he knows how important rest is for kids.
Dr Rossome added that a large majority of children in the United States are not getting enough sleep, according to the guidelines endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics.?
"We see that, especially our late elementary and middle schoolers who are starting to go to sleep at 8 or 9 o'clock, there's no way they're going to get that 9, 10, 11 or even 12 hours of sleep that many of these children need," he added.?

He understands there are nights where sport or extracurricular activities finish late, which is why you need to prioritise early beditme when you can.?
"My kids participate in a lot of sports and extracurricular activities," he added.?
"That's why the nights that we don't have sports, it's even more important for us to adhere to those strict bedtimes so the nights that do need to be more flexible because of sports or events, they can stay up a little later and not have a significant detriment to their sleep."?
The video, which has been watched over 600,000 times, got a lot of parents talking and plenty of them explained why a 7:30pm bedtime is just ridiculous.?

"My 15 year old has hockey until 9:30pm. Then it's snacks, showers, etc. Expecting a 15 yr old to go to bed at 8pm is a pipe dream lol," replied one mum.?
"Not that I disagree with you, but the way my 14 year old would start a civil war if I put them to bed at 7:30," added another.?
One mum commented, "I don't even get home from work with my toddler until 6/630."?
But other parents agreed that sleep is important and this bedtime works.?
"Our kids are in bed at 6:30pm and asleep by 7pm. They wake up at 6:15am. They need that much sleep," one mum replied.?
Another added, "I can't believe how many people don't understand the importance of sleep!"
