W?hen you announce you're pregnant, it can feel as though your body is suddenly public property, with everyone feeling entitled to comment on every aspect of it.

But singer Jessie J (real name Jessie Cornish) is having none of it, hitting back at critics telling her "how to feel" during her pregnancy, which she announced in an Instagram post last week.

The British singer, 34, shared the news with a video montage of her positive test, ultrasound and growing baby bump.

She also explained her hesitation in sharing the news, having experienced a devastating miscarriage with her first baby, in November 2021.

"I am so happy and terrified to finally share thisกญ Please be gentle with me," she wrote in the caption. "Honestly, ya girl just wants to ugly cry in public in a catsuit eating a chocolate-covered pickle with no questions asked."

While fans were quick to celebrate the news, the Flashlight singer revealed that she had copped criticism when posting a follow-up clip, a recap of her first trimester detailing her experiences with fatigue and morning sickness.

Cornish hit back at critics in a lengthy reply posted to her Instagram stories: "The comments on videos about my pregnancy is a whole new experience. It's very interesting observing how women are with each other," she revealed, saying that just because she found some aspects challenging, did not mean she was ungrateful for the experience.

"Pregnancy is the most relatable but UNIQUE journey. We all feel it and deal with it OUR own way. Telling someone how they feel or what to feel is just not the way to do it," she wrote.

"Pregnancy is not a competition. Pregnancy is not who is doing it better or right because not one way works for everyone," she continued, stating that every journey is different.

"I can only speak on the first trimester fully and I believe that however s--- or amazing or awful or scary or joyful it is, gratitude is always there as a given. But we are allowed to feel. We are allowed to do this however WE want."

In a follow-up post, she also said the internet was filled with adults acting like "13-year-olds' at a sleepover".?

?"I have never experienced physical pain and trauma or felt loneliness like it. This has changed me forever. In the most, heartbreaking, but beautiful way. It's put life into perspective in a way nothing else ever has," she wrote.

"Losing your baby is one of the worst feelings in the world," she added. "... to anyone who may not have been told this, you are allowed to be broken. You are allowed to cry."
