Mum gives birth to baby boy the size of a six-month-old: 'He's a celebrity'

By Madhurima Haque|

A US mum has given birth to a baby weighing a massive 6.37kg - double the size of an average newborn.

Arizona couple Cary and Tim Patonai were forced to have their baby early via C-section after the mum's water broke at the doctor's office. Shortly after they welcomed their son, Finnley - who went straight into clothes meant for six-month-olds.

"Finnley was a little celebrity at the hospital. Nurses and doctors were non-stop talking about him," his mum told Fox News.

"As soon as they pulled him out, they're like, 'Oh my gosh, that's huge!' Everybody was freaking out, like, 'I've never seen a baby that big, I can't believe it.' So perfect and round in every way. He's definitely my squishy little honey bear."

Not only did the family have to go out immediately to buy bigger clothes for their newest arrival, but his nappies also had to be special ordered at size two, as the hospital only carried up to size one.

Finnley was the third of his siblings to be delivered by the same doctor, and is reportedly the biggest baby delivered by the doctor in 27 years.

"They were born at (3.7kgs) and (5kgs), but Finnley took the lead," Patonai said.

But the mum says she would do it all over again to receive her 'blessing'.

After suffering from 19 miscarriages as a result of blood clotting disorder and fibroids, it was hard for the mum to leave Finnley in the NICU for eight days, but the family is now happily reunited at home.

"He is worth every ounce of pain, blood and tears shed," said Patonai, "He is such a good sweet baby. I am so grateful everything ended on such a great positive side."
