Surprise detail in toddler's closet that left many unimpressed

By Merryn Porter |

It is easy to get carried away buying items for children. One more cute pair of shoes, baseball cap or toy surely won't hurt? But most of us would agree gifting a three-year-old not one, but three Louis Vuitton handbags is a little over the top.

A US based TikTok star with almost two million followers became the target of critics after a video she posted, which showed off her toddler daughter's designer handbag collection, went viral.

Christi Fritz posted a video to her TikTok account this week in reply to a commenter who asked why she bought her three-year-old Louis Vuitton purses. The video started with the little girl in question sitting at a make-up table in her immaculately-styled bedroom.

"We did a room tour for our three-year-old daughter's new room and a lot of people asked why she has Louis Vuitton purses?" Fritz said in a voiceover.

"I am going to tell you but first look how cute she is doing a little make-up tutorial on her vanity."

The tour continues into the little girl's walk-in wardrobe. "OK so here is her closet and here is her Louis Vuitton collection," her mum said.

"She has three bags and honestly she has them because we think it's better to invest in high-quality bags that will last a long time.

"So we bought her the first two, the little ones, and the big one is actually my old one.

"She loved it so I let her have it but it's perfect if she wants to bring toys or make-up, anywhere we are going she has her own bag to do so."

Quite a stash. (TikTok)

She posted the video with the comment, "This is why she has designer purses! Which one is your favourite?" The video has so far been viewed 3.5 million times and has racked up 472,000 likes and 2800 comments.

Not surprisingly, not everyone was a fan.

"You spoil your daughter too much. She is going to grow up to be a brat," wrote one.

Others were upset about other details in the video.

"You let your three-year-old wear real make up too?" asked one.

But many jumped to the young mum's defence.

"Why do y'all care so much, it's her kid so what if she has nice stuff?" asked one.

"People act like they wouldn't do the same for their kid if they had the money to do it. I see no problem with spoiling your kids here and there," said another.

"Some people really be MAD over people spending their own money," wrote another.

"Bro ... it's her kid. She can buy what she wants for HER KID," was another comment.

Others saw another upside.

"Great investment too! Because when she's 18 if she wanted to sell her vintage LV to go towards business start up! Go mama," said one.

Fritz attempted to answer her critics the next day, posting another TikTok in which she replied to the commenter who said her child would wind up a spoilt brat. She said her daughter was too young to know the value of the items, and she was the "sweetest, most thankful toddler."
