Ninety years ago, a Danish carpenter named Ole Kirk Kristiansen crafted a line of small wooden toys in his workshop.
His first collection consisted of just 36 items including cars, airplanes, and yoyos. It was the start of what was to become one of the world's largest and most popular toy lines - with 'the brick' launched in 1958.
A few simple bricks has since grown to more than 18,000 LEGO products.
The company has passed from father to son and is now owned by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, a grandchild of the founder.
Take a look back at the history of LEGO - and some of the most iconic play sets loved by children, and adults, worldwide.
