Hilarious response to mum-to-be's plan to name baby after dating app: 'Gonna name my kid Grindrleigh'

By Merryn Porter |

It can be hard for couples to agree on the perfect baby name for their bundle of joy. While some people want a traditional name or one with links to their family, others want something more modern or meaningful to them and their relationship.

But a mother-to-be who wants to name her baby after the popular dating app Tinder has been rebuked by her husband and now the internet is ridiculing her idea.

The woman took to a closed Facebook mother's group in Florida in the US to get advice after she fell out with her husband over the baby name idea before someone posted a screenshot of the exchange on Reddit's "S--tMomGroupsSay" community this week.

Her post starts, "I'm almost seven months pregnant with our first child, a little girl. I've been fighting with my husband because he doesn't like the name I've picked out.

"I want to name her Tinderleigh because we met on Tinder a little over a year ago.

"The site helped me find my true love, and I think the name is perfect.

"My husband thinks it's embarrassing and doesn't want people to know we met there. How can I convince him how special this name is to me?"

The woman added she was "a little hurt that he is embarrassed by the way we came together in this world."

Reddit user tbd2233posted the exchange under the heading, "Let's name our baby after how we met," where it has been liked more than 6000 times and received hundreds of comments.

The majority of commenters left their own funny name suggestions, including 'Mistakeleigh', 'Accidentleigh', 'PlanBfailedmeigh' and 'DidntPullOutQuickLeigh'.

Others shared what their child would be called if named after how they met.

"My husband calls me his Tinderella because we also met on Tinder," wrote one.

"Gonna name my kid Grindrleigh," said another.?

"I met my boyfriend through Fortnite. Now I feel like I missed a golden opportunity to name my daughter Fortnitella," wrote another.

And another, "Met my wife through Tumblr. So I guess our kid would be... Tumblle? Tumblrlynn? Tumbsie?"

"My partner and I met on an app when I needed help with regular rides to work. Guess we should have named our newborn NextDoor," was another comment.

Others felt naming a child after where they were ?conceived could be fun.

"Good morning 1996 Toyota Camryleigh?," said one, while another wrote, "My cousin met his wife while waiting in line at Chipotle and I'm furious that they didn't name their daughter Chipotleigh."

"'Dad, why is my sister called Sunrise?' Because she was conceived at the beach at the most beautiful sunrise. But why are you asking, Broken Condom?" was another comment.

Some even came up with suggestions of how "Tinder" could be used in a name without completely giving it away, including Tinnifer, Tinderbelle and Tinley.

The original poster later wrote that the majority of people who replied on Facebook "agree with the husband, though they clarify there's nothing wrong with meeting on Tinder" as long as you "don't name the baby" after it.

They said the Facebook post was anonymous and while it was possible it was a joke, they "wouldn't put it past someone" in Florida to consider the name.

Another commenter simply lamented, "If humanity survives into next century, Kindergarten names are going to be wild."
