Vet's 'harsh truth' about choosing the right dog breed

By Madhurima Haque|

Most people have a dream dog breed they'd like to adopt one day, but one vet warns against setting expectations too high.

Jeff, who posts on TikTok as @theinkedvet, shared a video to his page urging his viewers to be conscious about which dog they plan to add to their family.

"Picking the right breed or breeds for your lifestyle is important. My own dogs are a really good example of that," he says.

Jeff owns two Australian cattle dogs, one that is very active and another which has bad legs, and as such is less active จC but very energetic all the same.

"They always have to be doing something, and since I don't have any cattle to work, it means every day they need walks, runs, hikes," he says.

In order to help his dogs burn off their energy, Jeff employs tools like puzzle feeders to keep their minds and bodies moving.

"Doing proper research is important so that way you don't end up at your veterinarian asking why your husky destroys all your furniture while you're at work all day, or why your French bulldog can't take five-mile hikes in the summer with you," he says.

Commenters agreed with his views.

"Louder for the people in the back!!!" said one.

"So true! Too many people don't take this in consideration before getting a dog! This is one of the things that piss me off," agreed another.

"That's the reason I won't be getting a husky of a shepherd. I work all day. I don't have the time to take them on a 4hr walk every day," said one commenter.

"I live a chihuahua life," one commenter admitted.
