Five things to know about ragdoll cats if you're considering one as a pet

Ragdoll cats are undeniably beautiful. They are a large cat with striking blue almond-shaped eyes and a semi-long, silky coat.

Their stunning appearance turns heads, but they are also gentle, affectionate, and can make lovely pets.

Their nature

Ragdoll cats are usually calm and gentle and enjoy lounging around. Their relaxed nature makes them ideal companions for families with children and other pets.?

Ragdolls are loving cats that thrive on human attention and often follow their owners around the house, seeking companionship. Their sweet nature makes them excellent lap cats for snuggling up together on the couch.?

These cats like company, so are not recommended if they will spend long periods alone.

Grooming

Despite their long fur, Ragdoll coats are a little easier to care for than some long-haired cats. Their coat is a single layer, while most long-haired cats possess a double coat.?

They still shed a lot, particularly during a change of seasons, and need regular brushing to keep their coat in good condition.?

Their coat is silky, more like rabbit fur, and is less prone to matting than most of their long- hair counterparts, but will still tangle and matt if not cared for properly.

Ragdoll cats are gentle and friendly and should be kept indoors for their own safety. They are laid back and easily stolen as they make friends with everyone.?

They adapt well to various living situations, including apartments. They love nothing more than hanging out with their owner between naps in a warm place in the house.

Health considerations

Like most purebred cats, they are prone to some breed-specific health issues. These include heart disease (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy จC a disease that causes a thickening of heart muscle) and hip dysplasia.

Regular veterinary check-ups and a well-balanced diet are essential for their overall well-being.

Cost

Purebred cats are much more expensive than adopting a kitten or cat from a rescue group. Please only buy from a reputable breeder who has done any recommended health screening of the parents.?
