'I'll be in bed by 10pm': Stars share their New Year's Eve plans

By 9Honey|

It's December 31, which means there's merely hours until 2020 กช and a whole new decade กช is upon us.

The question is... how best to ring in this shiny new era? Staying up to watch the fireworks? Guzzling champagne with friends? Going to bed at a civilised hour?

We asked some of 9Honey's favourite TV personalities and writers to share their plans for New Year's Eve in 2019.

Sylvia Jeffreys, Nine journalist

"I don't have any firm plans as yet, but it's safe to say I'll be celebrating the new year well before midnight. Late nights and pregnancy are not friends."

Jayne Azzopardi, Weekend Today presenter

"I'll be almost eight months pregnant this New Year's Eve, so I think dinner with the hubby, a few glasses of sparkling water and an early night are on the cards. I need my rest before 2020 begins! "

Bec Judd, Postcards presenter

"It's our wedding anniversary as well, but we don't have plans yet. We will probably be in bed by 10pm! "

Leila McKinnon, Nine journalist

"To go to bed feeling slightly ashamed of how old and boring I am, but not so ashamed that I can be bothered to go anywhere ."

Tracy Vo, 9News Perth presenter

"I have no idea! The year has gone so quickly, I haven't even organised myself for Christmas. But most likely, just some quiet drinks with mates. "

Livinia Nixon, 9News Melbourne presenter

"We're heading to a friend's home for a 'Great Gatsby' party. My flapper dress and sequined headband just arrived, so I'm ready to roll! "

Sami Lukis, 9Honey columnist

"I'll be hosting 15 fabulous Aussie ladies on one of my 'New York with Sami' tours. We'll enjoy a wonderful dinner in a (warm) restaurant in Times Square before heading outside just before midnight to watch the ball drop with about a million other people.

"It'll be so freezing that I won't be able to feel my face, but I've experienced NYE in NYC many times, and nothing compares to the incredible rush you get during that midnight countdown!"

Antonia Kidman, 9Honey columnist

"Quiet night on the balcony of our friends' newly renovated beach house with our kids and some champagne. Home in bed by 10pm!"

Amy Sheppard, singer

"This year we are off to the Sunshine Coast with a group of our friends. We all put in for a great Air BnB and plan to spend the night in Noosa!"

Allison Langdon, Today Show host

"We have two kids under three, we'll be lucky to stay up until the 9pm fireworks!"

Victoria Arbiter, 9Honey royal columnist

"New Year's Eve is normally spent with my best friend in the UK, and historically it gets quite messy in the very best way, but this year (for my sins) we'll be living it up at Star Wars Land at Disneyland. My son is quite the Star Wars geek, so why not join 10 million other people at the busiest time of the year?!

"When I'm away from home I always follow the countdown to midnight in England and raise a glass to the family and friends I'm missing. This year I'll be doing it from California. "

Scott Cam, The Block host

"Chilling at home."

Shelly Horton, 9Honey presenter

"I actually don't have any New Year's Eve plans this year. I think New Year's Eve is so overrated and it's always such a drama, getting Ubers and taxis and organising everything to do something that's overpriced.

"So, I actually quite liked doing something on New Year's Day, so I might be doing a New Year's Day long boozy lunch. "
