After 18 rounds of IVF Lisa had almost given up on motherhood. Then her best friend offered to be her surrogate

Lisa Messenger had spent half a million dollars over eight years and undergone 18 rounds of IVF when she was about to give up on her dream of becoming a mother.?
Then an unlikely superhero presented the author with a selfless offer จC to be her surrogate.
Speaking with Today Extra, Messenger recounted her journey to motherhood with co-hosts David Campbell and Sylvia Jeffreys.?

Thanks to her friend and surrogate, writer Sarah Megginson, Messenger welcomed her adorable son, Hugo.?The author revealed her best friend selflessly offered to carry her baby after watching what Messenger went through for close to a decade.?

"I do have three children. Fertility came easy and I thought that was unfair," Megginson told Today Extra.
"When Lisa was struggling, she tried for six years [and] I had a working uterus. I just knew being a parent was such a joy, and I would love to be the piece of [the] puzzle that helped her."
The two friends met in 2011. Seven years later, in 2018, Megginson offered to be her surrogate for the first time.?

"I wasn't ready then," Messenger explained of turning it down. "I had to try and experience a whole lot of things myself.
"Fast-forward to 2022, and I was at the end of my road."
At that point, Messenger asked her close friend if she still wanted to be her surrogate. The answer was yes.
However at five weeks, they suffered a miscarriage. ?
"This was nerve-racking for Lisa. She is like, 'We have done this once. Are you going to stick around?'"
Megginson said she was committed. ?
"I wanted to be the link in the chain that brought this man into the world," she shared, and eventually Hugo arrived. ?
The two friends have shared their journey together in a new book, The Power of Two.
"I realised how many people it could help," Messenger explained. "There are so many people going through fertility struggles... This is all about hope and possibility."
