Little boy's reaction when he realises no one is coming to his birthday party leaves internet in tears

By Georgia Weir|

It's a situation no parent ever wants to be in. Your child wants a birthday party, you invite their whole class and... no one shows up.

This was one mum's reality when only two out of 30 kids attended her son's eighth birthday party.? In a video posted to TikTok, US mum Karla documented the heartbreaking moment when the family realised no one was coming.

"Imagine turning eight and inviting the whole class only for them not to show up," Karla captioned the video.

In a series of clips, the eight-year-old can be sitting at the table looking around for his guests to arrive, the mum wrote that he was "anxious for his little friends to show up."

In another clip, the little boy appears to be slumped over the table in sadness telling his mum that he was going to nap, explaining that, "I'm going to nap so time can go faster and my friends show up."

The mum also filmed the mountains of uneaten food that was expected to feed 30 kids as well as a stack of unused tokens for the arcade. The mum added glumly, "It's past 5pm and no one [showed up]."?

Eventually, two of the young boy's classmates arrived and took pictures with the birthday boy.

The video ended with Karla's husband handing out a mountain of party bags to other kids at the venue after the other 28 invitees didn't show up.

Despite the gut-wrenching scenario, the young boy held himself together and even gave his mum a big cuddle towards the end of the video.

The video has been viewed close to seven million times and commenters were quick to throw their support behind the family and particularly the birthday boy.?

"My heart is actually broken.. crying.. I'm so sorry," one empathetic viewer commented.

"Noi kid should ever experience an insensitive act like this. This happened to me too," said another. "This is why I don't wanna do class parties for my kids. I'd rather spoil them with a day of just us doing whatever they want than have this heartbreak."

While another person wrote: "I cried for him. I'm so glad someone showed up for him."

In a follow-up video, the young boy can be seen opening gifts from two of his classmates, looking overjoyed.

"All he needs is one friend. I'm glad he had a smile on his special day," a commenter wrote.

There was an outpouring of support from people touched by the heartbreaking situation, so much so that they set up an Amazon wish list to buy birthday presents for the young boy.
