Mum left in tears after teacher cruelly mocks son for 'having a dog's name'

Starting school for the first time is an exciting time for children and their parents.

But what should have been a happy occasion has been marred due to the cruel words of a Kindergarten teacher who was caught making fun of one of her student's names.

The teacher's actions came to light in a post on the information-sharing website Reddit.

A woman who called herself Dapper-Dragonfruit94 took to the site this week with a post entitled, "My sister is in tears over how the school teacher treated her child จC she said he has a dog's name."

"My sister is extremely family oriented and spent the entire summer getting her four-year-old ready for school," the woman explained.

"He was also excited about going to school. He really enjoyed nursery and made a lot of friends.

"Like all parents, she took him out to get his new school uniform and let him pick out his lunch box.

"Anyway, he really enjoyed his first week of school and made some new friends (he already knew a good few because we live in a small village) and he said he really liked his new teacher."

But the woman said things took a turn when she offered to pick up her nephew from school the previous day because her sister had a dental appointment.

"I collected him along with my older children (in years 3 and 6)," she continued.

"As I am always waiting around for my year 6 to stop talking to her friends, almost everybody from the playground had already gone home.

"Everybody was now with their parents and the teachers had gone back inside the classroom. But they left the door and windows open.

"I overheard them talking about the children in their classrooms and whether any of them are 'bad', and I overheard my nephew's teacher say 'No, but one of mine has a dog's name.'

"The other teacher asked what it was and she said 'Benji' จC speaking about my nephew. I was in shock and disgusted! Thankfully, I don't think he was paying any attention and didn't hear them."

But things got even worse when ?she arrived at her sister's house. "I told her straight away and she burst out into tears," she said.

"She is now thinking about going in and speaking to the head about it. But she is not at all confrontational so she is still in two minds about this.

"She is distraught. I feel so bad for her."

A commenter on the thread was surprised to hear 'Benji' described as a dog's name.

"I was expecting it to be 'Bentley' or 'Bear' or something กช names I've heard and thought, 'Hmm that's a dog's name.' But Benji is an amazing name and definitely doesn't remind me of a dog's name!" wrote one, before adding that teachers 'shouldn't even talk crap about kids.'

"I would be bringing it up to the principal or the teachers themselves, and say you overheard it. Not good enough," she said.

While another said Benji was in fact in the 'top 50 most popular dog names' according to Reader's Digest, it was still wrong for the teacher to speak like this "in public."
