Dog missing for three months found using drone

By Madhurima Haque|

A? golden retriever has finally been reunited with her family after three long months thanks to the use of drone technology.

The Fremont County Sheriff's Office in the US posted on Facebook about their successful drone training session, which resulted in finding Farrah, who went missing after escaping from a car accident that her owners were involved in.

"Farah the golden retriever was lost several months ago when the car she was in was involved in an accident. Today, the FCSO drone was deployed in the area where she was last seen. Within minutes, Deputies spotted her using the drone's infrared camera," the post read.

"A short time later, Farah was reunited with her family. She is safely on her way home, and the UAS team was able to practice some very valuable search and rescue techniques with our drone!"

Taylor Salazar, ?Farrah's owner, was invited along to the drone training session to see if they could find the pup together. She knew that Farah had been in the area as she was informed by neighbours who had seen her drinking water on their properties on their surveillance cameras, but no one was able to catch her.

"If they got too close, she'd run away and she knew where to go. She was hiding," Salazar told news outlet KRDO.

A dispatcher working at the county office knew of Salazar's situation and thought the drone may help in the search for Farah. Their hunch turned out to be right, with Salazar only having to throw some chicken meat ?on the ground to attract her lost dog.

"She stuck her head through the barbed wire fence, and then the next minute she's laying in my lap and I was like, 'I got her!'" said Salazar.

Though Farah was found at about half her previous weight and with a broken leg that will have to be amputated, the golden retriever is otherwise happily resting at home with her family.

Salazar had adopted Farah as a companion dog when her husband Fili had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2019. Though Fili had only been able to enjoy Farah's company for less than three months after passing away, Salazar says he was "in love with her the minute he saw her."

"We needed something to brighten up our household," she said. "And she did just that."

Farah continues to be a source of support for Salazar, but now it is time ?for her to rest after her months long ordeal.
