King and Queen to lead royal family in Remembrance services this weekend, palace confirms

K?ing Charles III will lay a wreath at London's Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday, his first as monarch.

He will lead members of the royal family in the solemn service that pays tribute to Britain's war dead.

Buckingham Palace has ?confirmed the King will be joined by Camilla, the Queen Consort, and senior members of the royal family for the annual event.

Prince William will walk behind his father to lay a wreath previously laid by Charles, featuring the Prince of Wales's feathers. It will also bear a new ribbon in Welsh red.

The King's newly-designed wreath will feature poppies mounted on black leaves, as per tradition for the sovereign, with its ribbon bearing the King's racing colours: scarlet, purple and gold.?

The design pays tribute to the wreaths of his grandfather grandfather, King George VI, and Queen Elizabeth II.?

Last year the late Queen was forced to cancel her appearance at the service due to back pain and mobility issues.?

For the first time, a wreath will be laid on Camilla's behalf, by an equerry, featuring the Queen Consort's family's racing colours, inherited from her grandfather.?

Its design echoes the wreaths of the previous Queen Consort, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.?

Their wreaths have been produced by The Poppy Factory, and will be accompanied by handwritten cards bearing Their Majesties' new cyphers.?

Camilla will view the service from the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office building.

She will be joined by the Princess of Wales and the Countess of Wessex, Princess Alexandra, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence and the Duchess of Gloucester.

Princess Anne, ?Prince Edward, the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent will take part in the ceremony below.

In previous years, Prince Harry has joined his relatives by laying a wreath at the Cenotaph while his wife Meghan watched from the balcony alongside the other senior royals.

But since they chose to leave their places as senior working royals, and move to California, Prince Harry and Meghan are no longer included in the Remembrance Sunday ?service.

Earlier this week it was revealed a poppy wreath previously laid by the Duke of Sussex had been removed from a display at The Poppy Factory, along with one laid by Prince Andrew.

Other wreaths, laid by senior royals over the years, remain on show? at the museum.

In 2020, Prince Harry asked the royal family if a wreath could be laid on his behalf but his request was refused.

Prince Harry and Meghan will also be absent from the annual annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening.

In previous years, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have joined the royals for the event.?

The concert will be attended by the ?King and The Queen Consort, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra will also be present.
